Director Support Uploads

A command line script is available to help generate diagnostic information and upload it to RioRey. This script must be executed as root for all functions to work as expected. The top level help message and location of the script is shown below, followed by descriptions of each of the subcommands:

[root@director ~]# /opt/python_utils/director_util/supportupload.py -h
usage: supportupload [-h] {generate,upload,submit} ...

Tool to generate log files and upload them to RioRey.

optional arguments:
-h, --help show this help message and exit

subcommands:
Show additional help for each command with {command} -h.

{generate,upload,submit}
Command to execute.
generate Creates a support upload.
upload Uploads a file.
submit Generates and then uploads a support upload.

Generate

This subcommand creates several diagnostic files, and bundles them together into a tarfile. All created files are placed in /var/tmp/director/director_support/ for review or selective uploading.

[root@director ~]# /opt/python_utils/director_util/supportupload.py generate -h
usage: supportupload generate [-h]

Generates a batch of log files.

optional arguments:
-h, --help show this help message and exit

Upload

This subcommand will attempt to upload the selected file to RioRey's servers at supportupload.riorey.com over TCP port 8226. If a file isn't specified, it will try to upload the last tarfile created by the generate subcommand.

There is also an optional number flag. If trying to resolve an ongoing issue with RioRey Support, they may ask you to use this to attach the support case number to more readily identify uploaded files.

[root@director ~]# /opt/python_utils/director_util/supportupload.py upload -h
usage: supportupload upload [-h] [-f FILE] [-n NUMBER]

Uploads a file to RioRey. If no file is specified this will attempt to upload the last generated support upload.

optional arguments:
-h, --help show this help message and exit
-f FILE, --file FILE Select a specific file to upload.
-n NUMBER, --number NUMBER
The case number referenced by support, like RRCASE-XXXX.

Submit

This subcommand essentially runs the generate and upload commands back to back.

There is also an optional number flag. If trying to resolve an ongoing issue with RioRey Support, they may ask you to use this to attach the support case number to more readily identify the uploaded support tarfile.

[root@director ~]# /opt/python_utils/director_util/supportupload.py submit -h
usage: supportupload submit [-h] [-n NUMBER]

Generates and then uploads a support upload. This is equivalent to running the generate and upload commands back to back.

optional arguments:
-h, --help show this help message and exit
-n NUMBER, --number NUMBER
The case number referenced by support, like RRCASE-XXXX.
