rWeb Disk Replacement

Before Beginning

  • Request new drives from Riorey Support. Provide your rWeb serial number (available on the licensing page). Provide your expected management port address and default gateway if desired, as this can be configured on the drives prior to shipping.
  • Verify that a good rWeb backup is available. Note the version number of rWeb that the backup was created in.
  • Make sure your rWeb license is available. A license file is not required if rWeb has internet connectivity; otherwise you will need to reload your license file.

Swap Process

  • Power off rWeb.
  • Pull and remove the old drives from the front left side of the rWeb chassis. Replace them with the new drives, which will be labeled top and bottom.
  • Dispose of the old drives per your organization's data sanitation and hardware reclamation procedures. The old drives do not need to be returned to RioRey, but do take note of the serial numbers on the old disks and provide this information to RioRey Support.
  • Power on rWeb by pressing the power button on the front right of the chassis. The time for the first boot is at least 6 minutes. rWeb is expected to reboot itself once during this process.
  • If an IP address was provided to RioRey, rWeb should come up at that IP. Otherwise configure it over a local Ethernet cable as per initial installation instructions, or use a serial cable to set the management IP via console.
  • If desired, additionally set rWeb's hostname, DNS servers, and search domains using either method listed above.
info

You will still need to reconfigure hostname and DNS yourself if you supplied IP address information.

  • Check the running version of rWeb. rWeb must be running at least the version of the backup. It can be running a later version.
  • If needed, upgrade rWeb. First you will need to apply your rWeb license. You can use rWeb's UI License pull, or upload your license file directly.
  • Restore your original backup file, then re-apply your license (rWeb backups don't transfer license files to allow moving between different rWebs), after which the disk replacement procedure is complete. You may need to refresh the browser during the restore if you know the SSL certificate will be changed (if the restore process appears to hang).
warning

The restore will not replace the password used on the /setup page. If not changed during the steps above, it will remain the default value.

After replacing your drives but before you restore the backup, your browser may refuse to connect to rWeb because of HSTS. In this case you'll need to clear your browser's HSTS settings for rWeb temporarily in order to restore the backup.
